SN Ground Segment Sustainment

The mission of the SN Ground Segment Sustainment (SGSS) Project is to implement a flexible and extensible ground segment that will allow the Space Network (SN) to maintain the high level of service in the future, accommodate new users and capabilities, while reducing the effort required to operate and maintain the system in the future.

The SGSS Project has the responsibility to refurbish the SN Ground Segment, which involves completely redesigning the architecture and function of two ground stations at the White Sands Complex in White Sands, NM and a TDRSS Terminal at the Guam Remote Station. First implemented in 1983, the TDRSS hardware and software at these stations are becoming increasingly difficult to sustain and maintain. This poses substantial risks to the highly reliable service that has been provided for over two decades.

SGSS will update this national resource with a new architecture and system, providing even more reliable service to its valued customers, while continuing to attract new high-class, high-data rate customers. SGSS will also ensure uninterrupted service to current customers during the transition to the new architecture.

PPIA is providing Systems Engineering expertise to define interfaces and document requirements for SGSS.
