Overview

In 1997 PPI CEO Joe V. Travez concluded a 15-year career at Marriott International. During his Marriott career, he contributed to the growth of an international corporate division while gaining key insight into the feasibilty, design, and construction of hotels and resorts worldwide. More importantly, Mr. Travez’ unique career instilled within him an experience based global perspective and deep understanding of globalization. Mr. Travez combined his passion for building with PPI’s high-tech product development and manufacturing expertise to form Technology Worx (TWX).

TWX’s original service offerings included designing and developing technologies for the building industry in addition to conceptual design and project management advisory services. Projects have included large scale national and international hotel and resort developments such as Dulles 28 in Northern Virginia and Hotel Quito in South America. Since 1998, TWX’s expertise has expanded to include designing and developing built environments that address socioeconomic issues (Day Labor Kiosk Park), inspire and promote education (Observatory Park), and help organizations accomplish strategic corporate goals and objectives (PPI HQ).

Presently, TWX has merged into PPI Environments as a business-unit with the mission of teaming with architects and designers to cross-pollinate and deliver innovative concepts and technologies into the building industry (Tek Wall). Project management advisory services will still be provided on a case by case basis when there is an appropriate value proposition and strategic synergy. By leveraging experience and versatility, PPI Environments aspires to accelerate the innovation process of all design firms.

The Built Environment as Strategic Tool

Contemporary business has embraced the notion of utilizing the built environment to promote desired social behaviors in order to accomplish strategic goals and objectives. At PPI, communication, collaboration, and holistic well-being are critical to accomplishing our core purpose and maintaining competitive advantage.

In this regard, PPI itself has combined modern architectural theories with its own deep heritage to transform its facilities into a “leadership and innovation laboratory” where principles of social engineering and the Culture of Innovation are explored and verified. The research and discoveries made through this process are being placed to further practice in the design of all our future environments.
