Railroad Safety Inspection System
Our client developed a machine vision system that inspected the air hoses connecting railroad cars, while the cars are in motion. PPI designed and manufactured a hardware platform capable of being installed underneath railroad tracks, exposed at a bridge abutment. The system was extremely durable, incorporating a shutter system which protected the optics from debris and weather.
Challenges included a very difficult environment for deployment of an optical system, along with specific requirements for precise optical alignment.
