Power Line Clamping System
PPI has developed a “hot-stick” clamping system for our client’s optical current sensor. The device allows a power company lineman to stand in the boom of a bucket truck, reach out to a live electrical distribution line, and clamp on the optical current sensor, without risk of electrocution. PPI provided design and manufacturing services, leveraging Direct Digital Manufacturing using SLS to produce functional beta hardware.
Challenges included exposure to rugged environmental conditions and high voltage safety issues.
