The Rock n’ Roller model laboratory shaker system allows for chemical mixtures to be prepared carefully and precisely. The unit is a sturdy design that uses a series of gearing and arms to move a platform that a lab technician attaches a drum to. This drum holds one or more mixtures that the chemical lab wishes to prepare. The sensitivity and precision required to prepare chemical mixtures required the mechanical shaker to be able to agitate the mixture at a precise period and angle.
This project is the very first major product development and manufacturing projects taken on by PPI. In many ways this represents the service model that PPI brings to bear on all of its products. Originally, the client’s line of shakers was not sophisticated enough to overcome the challenges of needing precise, measurable settings. PPI was approached and then offered the entirety of its service offering to solve this industry challenge. With a tiny staff and manual lathes, PPI was able to create a design that met every one of the client’s design requirements.
The Rock n’ Roller shaker system became the new standard in laboratory mixers. PPI was retained in an engineering and technical support role after the initial manufacturing contract was filled. This allowed PPI staff to further refine the system and reduce cost even more. The Rock n’ Roller became popular enough to sell well after PPI had perfected the design and moved on to more complex projects.
The development and production of this project is a prime example of PPI’s business model. From the very beginning a reputation has been established that PPI is capable of seeing any part of a project’s design process through to completion and commercial success. With a resourceful staff and production capacity, a product was developed that exceeded all expectations and has enjoyed a long technical lifespan.
