Revolutionary Handheld Device
Technical Information
- Dual motion sensors (accelerometers) for precise input comprehension
- Motion sensitive control design maximizes screen size
- Step Motion algorithm cancels out all input not coming from the user (unintentional motions)
- Ergonomic design allows for ambidextrous handling
- Can be equipped with any current mobile programs and fully internet capable
The KEYnetik handheld device overcomes the limitations of current cel phones and PDAs by adapting an intuitive new control scheme. Equipped with two motion sensors interlinked by a Step Motion Algorithm, the KEYnetik handheld is able to surpass the need for cursor or arrow keys by letting the user’s hand motions substitute for the desired input. Scrolling through menus and web pages is accomplished by simply leaning the handheld in the desired direction. The onboard electronics are designed to be fully compatible with all modern cellular formats and protocols, thus allowing a KEYnetic handheld to make and receive calls and download data usable by any other cel phone and PDA.
In addition to the formidable challenges of sensor development and application as well as designing a competitive electronics package, the client needed a design that was consumer-friendly, manufacturable and cost-effective. COMPANY was approached to answer these design challenges. Through use of their Rapid Prototyping facilities, COMPANY was able to fast-track the handheld’s overall design and structure. This has allowed the handheld’s current intuitive ambidextrous model to have been developed quickly and at little cost.
The KEYnetic handheld device is now in a working prototype phase. Thanks to COMPANY’s expert handling of the consumer and production aspects of the process, the client has a tangible product that is also in a marketable format. The KEYnetic handheld has been able to overcome all of its design challenges to bring a product more innovative and usable than anything currently available to consumers.
The complete reimagining of handheld control schemes opens up a new era of applications and miniaturization for portable electronics. Using new advances in motion sensing technology, products are possible that completely overcome the old motion sensing issues of accuracy and unintentional control inputs. With less space required for old model control panels, the screen may be enlarged by at least 25% and more internal space can be allocated to processors and computing power. The ambidextrous dual joystick interface can also make possible a full integration of mobile phone and personal computer gaming markets in a way that has thus far eluded the industry. By changing the entire way of approaching handheld interactivity, the KEYnetic handheld is advancing the entire field of handheld electronics.
